Embracing Change is not always easy especially if we are feeling lost or stuck. A new year and a new decade is the perfect time to start.
A few years ago I let go of a ‘cliff’ that I was hanging desperately onto. Crazy as it sounds, it felt more comfortable to keep holding on. The alternative was to let go and surrender. It felt easier to hold on to something that did not support me. I was very unhappy, lost and feeling alone yet I kept clinging onto that cliff with all the energy I could muster up.
Eventually, I let go.
For the first few while after I surrendered I didn’t know what was going to happen next, who I was, what should I be doing and then …
I let go again, and again, and again, and again, and continued to do so over many years.
What I discovered is that to embrace change we have to let go of parts of us that no longer serve us. Sometimes it may be little steps of surrender, and others much bigger and significant.
Everything is changing constantly around us. Our body is constantly renewing itself even down to a 0.1mm growth per day on our fingernails, of which we have no control. Our hair, skin and organs are in constant flow of change. We have have been changing all our lives. Therefore proof that all change is not difficult, hard or even painful.
Our natural order is to grow and expand in joy of whom we are being. Therefore letting go and surrendering that which no longer serves us is the key to fully stepping into our true selves, to living a passionate life, to our happiness and enjoying every moment.
“Surrender is deeply misunderstood as an act of weakness. Surrender is the bravest and most lucid thing a human does, and that’s why it’s so precious to the divine.” –Andrew Harvey
How to embrace change:
- Values
- Self Love
- Direction
1. Values
Ask yourself “What is important to me in relation to life?” Then note those values that you wish to keep and which you want to let go off. Which values will support you going forward?” This is an exercise I love doing with my clients and is one of the first step in my online trainings.
I have found knowing my values to be the key to keeping me aligned with what I want in life, whom I wish to show up as, and how I treat myself.
2. Self Love
This is the key to a lot of our difficulties in life. When something bad happens we tend to look externally for comfort where there is no answers for us.
Instead, when we take a journey inwards, being kind with ourselves, nurturing ourselves with the right foods and exercise. Taking reflective time to focus on what we do want (not on what we don’t want in life).
Spending joyful time with ourselves is something not a lot of people can do. Being able to meet ourselves in the mirror as we would a best friend is a journey in itself. When we become aware of ourselves our problems in life become much smaller. Our internal dialogue with ourselves is supportive and nurturing that we can overcome our challenges with ease.
3. Direction
Have you made a decision to take a direction in your life or made a decision to to stay where you are? Either way is a decision. What direction will bring you more peace and happiness in your life? Have you visualized all of this and more into your awareness?
Have you a strategy to physically create the life that you wish to have. Do you have a plan as to how you wish to step into the greater version of you where you are all that you can be and more living your life to the fullest manifesting all your hopes and dreams. Without direction we may focus only on the past, or focus all our energy on the problem which is only a waste of good energy.
“You cannot change your destination overnight,
but you can change your direction overnight”
So what is happening in your life that does not align with your values, your dreams and your goals?
I love to ask the question – does this align with your values, your dreams and your goals?
If not, then it’s time to let it go, embrace the change and move on.
Perhaps its time you made the decision to let it go? Whether it’s time to embrace a change in work and you begin to update your CV. Is it time to start looking at other opportunities? Do you need to learn a new skill? Or perhaps it’s embracing a change in a relationship? Are you are settling for second best knowing that you deserve better? Is there something more you wish for? Do you have a state of mind or beliefs that you hold onto that no longer support you in your growth? Is it time to embrace change?
Where are you stuck today? What are you hanging onto? What are you ready to declare that you will surrender to to day and let go from all aspects of your being? Are you uncomfortably comfortable?
When we let go …
we create space for something new to come in.
Releasing and letting go can be difficult if we have been stuck in that uncomfortable comfort zone for a long time. And yes, for some it might get more uncomfortable to ‘unstuck’ you. “This too shall pass” is a quote that can really help anyone in the midst of a difficult change. Eventually, it will certainly pass – that is for sure.
However with the right help and support we can all ‘unstick’ ourselves into freedom, into creating the lives that we had only hoped to dream. We can create it.
The journey is the magic. The letting go is where we become so very aware of our aliveness, our vulnerabilities, our ego, our power, our soul, and our connection with the people in our lives that truly supports us and meeting other magical people along the way.
We all have our ‘trials’ in life, our lessons to gain which make us stronger and are the milestones in our lives which upon reflection makes our life’s more worthwhile.
